This article analyzes the modern types of database management systems (DBMS), their architectures and core capabilities. Various paradigms such as relational, NoSQL, NewSQL, graph-oriented, object-oriented and time-series databases are comparatively examined. The strengths, application domains, and limitations of each type are described. Contemporary trends including cloud computing integration, distributed architecture, and artificial intelligence embedding are also discussed. The research findings can serve as a practical guide for database architects and software engineers in selecting the optimal DBMS.
