THE ROLE OF INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION COMPETENCE IN TEACHING ENGLISH
Abstract
Intercultural communication competence (ICC) is an essential dimension of English language teaching (ELT) in today’s globalized world. As English expands beyond native speaker contexts, learners require not only linguistic proficiency but also the ability to navigate cultural differences, interpret varied communication norms, and engage respectfully with diverse interlocutors. This article reviews theoretical foundations of ICC, examines its significance in ELT, explores pedagogical approaches, and discusses challenges and implications for teaching practice.
